For centuries, Christian quotes have been a source of inspiration and guidance to believers. From the thoughtful wisdom of Reformed preachers like John Calvin, who challenged us to consider that ‘God’s mercy is so great that you may sooner drain the sea of its water, or deprive the sun of its light, than diminish the mercy of God,’ to the comforting words of Martin Luther, who reminded us that ‘The heart of religion lies in its personal pronouns,’ these quotes echo with the testimony of unwavering faith. By reflecting on such profound statements, believers can find strength in their journey, whether they’re facing trials or seeking encouragement. Diving into these riches can help cultivate a heart firmly grounded in the truth of God’s Word.

“Have you realized that your every worry is an invitation to draw closer to God? That every anxiety in your life compels you to direct your gaze to someplace or someone? “Anxiety. Worry. I will confess, it is a besetting sin. I am not sure why. Maybe I picked it up from my parents, not because they expressed it to me, but because I was astute enough to recognize how difficult their lives were. How little we had, and how hard they worked just to get by. Yes, it is a sin. In fact, think about this: our Lord invested a pretty hefty section of the Sermon on the Mount in warning us about the foolishness of the sin of worry (Matthew 6:25-34). He concludes that section, “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” And Paul echoed his Lord’s command, “Be anxious for nothing” (Phil. 4:6). There are few topics more cut and dried: anxiety is not to be a part of the Christian’s daily experience.
But…it is, at least for some of us. Not just the anxiety of the regular pressures of life, but in this present day, the anxiety of the direction of the entire world, embracing the rebellion of the day like a virus of the mind, rushing toward self-destruction, or, at least it seems so to us.
The root of anxiety is distrust: we have “small faith” in God, little faith in His promises, or even His ability to carry out those promises! Do we have example after example in Scripture and in church history of those before us pressing on in faith, trusting God, and finding Him faithful? Of course! But oh how the pressure of the moment can make us forgetful and anxious! In my own life I have seen God’s faithfulness over and over and over again. Amazing, isn’t it, that we can experience God’s faithfulness and in such a short time fall into doubt and distrust? Why do our memories focus on the negative, and do not dwell on the positive? [Suggestion: because we do not cultivate, or, at least I do not cultivate nearly enough, the Christian virtue of thanksgiving. Spending time each day giving true, heart-felt thanks to God for all He has done for us is, I know, the greatest antidote for anxiety]. I know we will all face reasons for anxiety today. For me, I will surely seek to keep my Lord’s words in mind, and pray for the peace which passes all understanding, which He can provide in abundance.”
“Prov. 21:8 – The way of a guilty man is perverse, But as for the pure, his work is upright.
When Scripture says for the pure, his “work is upright,” the Hebrew term for upright is יָשָׁ֥ר. Interestingly, it is translated ὀρθὰ in the LXX, i.e., “straight.” I am reminded of the Greek term ὀρθοποδέω (Gal 2:14), to walk straight in accordance with a rule.
We want to be described by God as those who are pure, so our work is to be ὀρθὰ, straight, orthodox, consistent. Consistency is definitional of truthfulness. How we think either honors our Maker, or insults Him. Right now, with impurity the tsunami of the day, inconsistency, crookedness, is the hallmark of the impure. Stand firm, don’t give in, and honor God by so doing.”
Derek Thomas Quotes:

- Jesus loves you”
Richard Sibbes Quotes:
“When we are in trouble we frame ourselves to God. Then all the tyrants in the world and all the devils in hell cannot hurt us.”
“There is more mercy in Christ than sin in us.”
Jonathan Edwards Quotes:
“The strength of the good soldier of Jesus Christ appears in steadfastly maintaining the holy calm, meekness, sweetness, and benevolence of his mind, amidst all the storms, injuries, strange behaviour, and surprising acts and events of this evil and unreasonable world.”
Miscellaneous Quotes:
“A man who is afraid of sinning because of Hell-fire, is afraid, not of sinning, but of burning.” (Augustine)
“While drunk, Lot impregnated his daughter, who bore Moab, whence came Ruth, the great-grandmother of David, the king who murdered Bathsheba’s husband and with her fathered Solomon, who filled Jerusalem with idolatry. Christ’s genealogy preaches his will to save even the most messed up of families.” (Chad Bird)
“Praise is the sweetest part of divine worship; it is a short heaven here on earth. (Isaac Watts)
“To say that God has spoken expressly in His Word is to say that there are some things that He has said in Scripture directly, explicitly, plainly, and unmistakably.” (Mark A. Garcia)
“Beware of pastors who are addicted to “the glitter of praise, he will be injurious both to himself and to others, desiring through his love of applause to speak more for the sake of approval from his audience, than for their benefit.” (John Chrysostom)
“Jesus left a world in which angels cried, “Holy, Holy, Holy,” to come to a world in which sinners cried, “Crucify Him! Crucify Him!” Let us never cease to marvel at the glory of Jesus.” (Garrett Kell)
A passion to preach without a commitment to study is just a desire to perform. (H.B. Charles Jr.)
“The main message of the gospel is not that Jesus fixes our brokenness, which of course He does. The main message of the gospel is that Jesus saves us from the wrath of God which is to come at the final judgment. The gospel must proclaimed, according to Jesus, in this light.” (Grant R. Castleberry)
“Whatever happened to the Christian worldview, which values the life of the unborn, the sanctity of marriage and the family, and the freedom of nations to protect their own borders? The evangelical mind has become the secular, progressive mind.” (Grant R. Castleberry)
“The glory for the gospel’s advance belongs to God, who gives the growth (1 Cor 3:6). So we must be careful not to lift up any one man to a place that borders on the precipice of idolatry. Not Paul. Not Augustine. Not Calvin. Not Edwards. Not Whitefield. Not Spurgeon. Not Lloyd-Jones. Christianity has never depended on a mere man. The best of men are men at best. Christianity has always depended on Christ working in the church in the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Grant R. Castleberry)
Adriel Sanchez Quotes:
We are tempted to idolize pastors and politicians who champion our causes. This idolization keeps us from seeing clearly. We excuse their failures out of fear that to admit they’ve erred in one area is to open up the possibility that they’re wrong about the things we love them for. As is the case with idolatry, we end up with “eyes but cannot see” the faults of our heroes. The only sinless savior is Jesus. Everyone else will disappoint us, but that doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be accountability.
“It’s never too late to ask God for his forgiveness. His abundant mercy isn’t a license to sin, but a refuge from being crushed by your transgressions. Don’t let despair and unbelief keep you from laying hold of the grace found in Jesus Christ.”
“Legalistic Christian cultures can look strong from the outside, but they’re extremely fragile. Genuine Christian liberty isn’t permitted because its flexibility stretches the group-think to a breaking point. The rigidity is maintained by making everything a “Christian” issue, and charity gives way to new laws.”
“I had a NT Greek professor in college who would say, “Just knowing a little bit of Greek is a dangerous thing.” You know enough to make it sound like you’re learned, but you’re prone to make basic errors. Same is true with knowing just a little bit of theology, or the Bible.”
